Community Committee

Champagne/Aishihik First Nations was the first to sign a Community Committee Agreement with the First Nation School Board in Yukon.

This historic agreement was signed by Chief Barb Joe and FNSB Trustee and CAFN Citizen Shadelle Chambers at the 2023 General Assembly.

Community Committee agreements are flexibile to change, adapt, and grow in time. They outline which powers of the Education Act are shared between the Community Committee and the school board.

Community Committees empower the community to guide its own school.

The St. Elias Community School (SECS) Community Committee is the governing body for the K-12 school in Dakwä̀kä̀da. Together, they share authorities and responsibilities over the management and operation of the school with the First Nation School Board.

They are representatives of, and accountable to, the community of Dakwä̀kä̀da including the First Nations, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, residents and citizens, parents, families - and above all - the Learners of SECS.
